On the afternoon of July 5th, Vice Governor Ji Xiangqi met with Marilou Cayco, Governor of Batanes of the Philippines.
Vice Governor Ji expressed welcome to the guests and introduced to them the economic and social development of Shandong province. He pointed out that exchanges and cooperation between Shandong and Batanes enjoy great potential. The two sides could enhance cooperation in such areas as agriculture, fishery, tourism and culture.
Governor Cayco said that Shandong had advanced agricultural technology, while Batanes still faced the challenges of food self-sufficiency, especially with vegetable, fruit and grain. She hoped that Batanes could step up plantation technology cooperation with Shandong, and make her visit the start of a long-term friendly cooperation.
Ms. Wang Jianqun, Consul and Head of China’s Consulate in Laoag, Mr. Xue Qingguo, Director-General of Shandong Foreign Affairs Office, and officials from departments in charge of agriculture, ocean and fishery, commerce, culture and tourism also attended the meeting.
